Match Results for the February 14th Fun Shoot
18 Shooters braved the warmer weather -- it was above 25 degrees when we started -- to participate in the 8th Annual "Frigid Feet & Fingers" or "Frozen Toes & Frigid Fingers" February Fun Shoot. Compared to the past years when it's been 5 below for 4 of the years and 5 above for a couple, it was downright balmy! We almost had to cancel due to the warmer-than-desired conditions. While the low temps didn't provide for any excitement, the switching winds did, and those were a challenge for most shooters.
Our first-place shooter proved that many years of reading the wind in centerfire benchrest competitions will help you when shooting the rimfires at 100 yards. If memory serves me correctly, I believe that's the highest score ever shot at this match. Our youngest shooter was Sam F, Ben Crehore's grandson, who also had his mother and father along as a pit crew. At just 8 years young, he was justifiably proud to post a 100 point improvement over last year's score and at the end of the day he proudly walked away with the Valentine's shaped cake from the prize table. If Ben continues to coach Sam as well in the future as he has in the past, we'll all be in trouble in a few years...
All the shooters had a great time, and the Match Director would like to thank all those who helped to call the line, change targets or help with the scoring. Let's hope we can do this match again in 2011.
