and...

Click here to read the November 2011 article, Outdoors: A hunt like no other, by Ben McCanna, Kennebec Journal, detailing the results of a joint effort by Palermo resident, Jeff Molloy, and our own Ray Kimble to develop the "Equalizer Shooting System" a wheelchair-mounted shooting system.

Reminders from the Club Instructor:

One of the rules for bench house shooting is: no cross fire on targets. That is why each port is numbered 1-12, and the targets at 25, 50, 100/200 yards have corresponding number boards at the top of each frame.

The number boards are not targets. If, when you come to the range with your rifle or shotgun with slugs, and you think your weapon shoots high; shoot the first shot into the berm. Then check and lower sights accordingly. If you don’t wish to do this, at least mount your target low on frame so a high shot still goes into the homosite. If by accident, a shot goes high enough to hit the number board -- at least you’ll know why you haven’t hit a deer in the past 5 years.

On the subject of shotguns/slugs, these 25/50 yard frames are fairly rugged and can absorb a fair amount of small caliber ammo, but a 1 oz. 12 ga. slug can ruin a frame with one shot.

Finally, we do not have a shotgun patterning board so please do not use the Personal Protection Range or regular targets to pattern your shotgun. Bring your own backstop and piece of cardboard or paper.

The rules at the Club are designed to make shooting as safe as humanly possible as well as to maximize replaceable equipment use.

Thank you,

Ben Crehore
